Partnership Leads to Success in Wyoming

Natrona County School District #1, covering approximately 6,000 square miles in central Wyoming, serves nearly 12,000 students in Casper and several surrounding communities. The Natrona County Education Association (NCEA) and district administrators historically had a positive relationship, but strain began to show during particularly difficult negotiations in 2001.

The two sides hired facilitators to help them find a better way, and the result was a renewed spirit of collaboration and commitment to providing Natrona County students with a world-class education. The union and administrators collaborated on a student evaluation system, support for at-risk students, class size, and a transition plan for students at a closing school.
